Trace Problems to Their Sources

As an editor, I’m intrigued with words—their meanings, origins and evolutions. It’s an interest I share with Teradata 14 Certified Master Carrie Ballinger, who pointed out in a recent Teradata Magazine article that the Greek words “tekhne,” meaning a craft, and “logia,” meaning systematic treatment, are the basis for the word “technology.”

Like with tracing words to their native meanings, taking a complete look at technical challenges and determining their sources can also provide insights, such as the history and progression of the problem. This comprehensive approach is what enables Ballinger to answer technical questions from readers and walk them through likely solutions.

Read her responses to questions about block-level compression, Timeshare decay in SLES 11, cylinder reads and temperature, and more in our Q1 issue.
